The DIY workshops have proved to be a popular choice with students. The students have the opportunity to take part in learning skills used in woodworking, Model Making, concreting and painting.
The students have made a number of items including garden furniture, bird tables and boxes, flower planters, coffee tables and a bookshelf. The students are able to build experience, and practice their skills in the use of hand held and power tools under the close supervision of our support staff.
The students have recently completed a 6 week programme of Model Making, they have designed, and made Miniature village scenes, that have included a fairground incorporating a carousel, strong man, sweet shop and a coconut shy. They have also built a church using inspiration based upon the ‘Chesterfield Crooked Spire church’, the students built this out of matchsticks and it even included its very own stained glass windows.
The students are also involved in our concreting workshops, which involves making moulds, mixing concrete and putting finishing effects on each of the products. A number of the concrete items are regularly on display at our John St location and all profits from any sales are put back into Spectrum Active.
Please look at our catalogue of items for sale that are handmade by Spectrum Active students.
